The newly opened Flanders Meeting & Convention Center is the only venue in the world to be set within a Zoo. It is also the only venue where the proceeds of all commercial activities including every meeting, conference, incentive and events will contribute to one of the world’s leading centers for research and conservation. Officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium on Saturday November 26th, the historic 19th century zoo is part of the facilities of the new 21st century Flanders Meeting & Convention Center – A Room With a ZOO.
Home to Matadi the silverback gorilla, his impressive appearance has become the face of FMCCA. Matadi has become one of the zoo’s cuddly toys and the FMCCA mascot. Handed out during ibtm world and conventions held in the FMCCA complex, our cuddly toy is now travelling the world.
Anja Stas, Chief Commercial Officer FMCCA: "We hope you all will come to Antwerp and get the pleasure of really experiencing the magic of this place. Every penny spent in our convention center is a penny that is directly linked to the work that we do on research and conservation for the well-being and survival of our zoological friends."
Matadi came to Antwerp ZOO earlier this year from Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, UK. He is said to have an “incredibly sociable and curious outlook about everything around him and loves to be the center of attention”. Since arriving he has gradually been introduced to three females and as the silverback gorilla is seriously endangered in the wild, the ZOO is hoping that Matadi will produce offspring.
